Latin trap singers took American trap songs that had gone to No. 1 and sang them again in Spanish, keeping the beat as it was. Hear the originals first, then the Spanish over the same beats.

Desiigner was a teenager in Brooklyn when he found a beat on YouTube by Menace, a producer from Rochdale in England, and rapped “Panda” over it. His voice and delivery drew constant comparisons to Atlanta’s Future. In the Bronx, Cardi B borrowed the cadence of Florida rapper Kodak Black’s “No Flockin” for “Bodak Yellow” and bent his name into the title. Like “Panda” before it, the song went to No. 1 in the US.

Almighty, born in Cuba, made a Spanish version of “Panda” over the same beat and released it on Farruko’s label. On the “Latin Trap Remix” of “Bodak Yellow”, Cardi B raps in Spanish herself, joined by Messiah, who first got noticed for Spanish remixes of Drake and Future. “Krippy Kush” by Farruko and Bad Bunny went the other way: a Spanish-language song whose remix brought in Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott.
