ワシントンのソウルのバンドが1969年に B 面へ入れたドラムのブレイクは、ほとんど注目されなかった。1986年、ブロンクス育ちの DJ ブレイクビート・ルーたちが、DJ のためのブレイク集の1枚目に、回転を45から33に落として収める。そこからヒップホップを経て、ロンドンのジャングルへ渡っていく。
In 1969 a soul band from Washington, D.C. put a drum break on a B-side, and almost nobody noticed. In 1986 Breakbeat Lou, a DJ raised in the Bronx, and his partner put the track on the first volume of a compilation of breaks for DJs, slowed from 45 to 33 rpm. From there it passed through hip-hop to jungle in London.

ウィンストンズは、インプレッションズのツアーで後ろの演奏を務めていた。インプレッションズの「Amen」は、カーティス・メイフィールドが映画で聴いたゴスペルを、行進のようなリズムに乗せた曲。ウィンストンズは「Color Him Father」の B 面に、同じゴスペルとメイフィールドが弾いてみせたリフを使い、20分ほどで「Amen, Brother」を作る。リフだけでは短すぎたので、グレゴリー・コールマンのドラムだけの4小節を足した。
The Winstons toured as the backing band for the Impressions. The Impressions’ “Amen” took a gospel song Curtis Mayfield had heard in a film and set it to something close to a marching beat. Needing a B-side for “Color Him Father”, the Winstons built “Amen, Brother” in about 20 minutes from that same gospel song and a guitar riff Mayfield had played for their leader. The riff alone made the track too short, so they added four bars of Gregory Coleman playing drums by himself.

レニー・デ・アイスの「We Are I.E.」は、東ロンドンのレコード店から生まれたレーベルの4曲入りの盤の、B 面の2曲目だった。アーメン・ブレイクが鳴り続けるこの曲は33回転で作られたが、のちの DJ は45回転に上げてかけた。リマークは、細かく組み替えたブレイクにラガの声を重ねた最初期の作り手の一人。1997年には R.I.P. プロダクションズが、「We Are I.E.」をスピード・ガラージに作り直した。
Lennie De Ice’s “We Are I.E.” came out on a four-track EP from a label that grew out of an East London record shop, tucked away as the second track on the B-side. The Amen break rattles all the way through it, and later DJs took the record, mastered at 33 rpm, and played it at 45. Remarc was one of the first producers to lay ragga vocals over breaks cut up and rearranged in fine detail. In 1997 R.I.P. Productions remade “We Are I.E.” as speed garage.
