ザイトーヴェンの父は、軍で働きながら牧師もしていた。息子は教会のバンドでピアノとオルガンを覚え、高校では、フットボールの試合のハーフタイムにキーボードを弾いていた。
Zaytoven’s father served in the military and also worked as a pastor. His son learned piano and organ in the church band, and in high school he played keyboard during football halftime shows.

ハーフタイムでキーボードを弾くザイトーヴェンに声をかけたのが、サンフランシスコのラッパー JT・ザ・ビガ・フィガだった。ザイトーヴェンは毎日 JT のスタジオに通い、キーボードを好きなだけ使ってビートの作り方を覚え、高校生のうちに、同じ街のメッシー・マーヴや、ヴァレーホの E-40 とも仕事をした。E-40 の「Dusted 'N' Disgusted」のビデオには、JT も顔を出している。このとき JT からもらったドラムの音を、ザイトーヴェンはその後もずっと使い続けている。
The San Francisco rapper JT the Bigga Figga noticed Zaytoven playing keyboard at halftime and reached out to him. Zaytoven went to JT’s studio every day and learned to make beats on as many keyboards as he liked. While still in high school he worked with Messy Marv from the same city and with E-40 from Vallejo, and JT appears in the video for E-40’s “Dusted ‘N’ Disgusted”. Zaytoven has kept using the drum sounds JT gave him ever since.

サンフランシスコの湾岸でビートを覚えたザイトーヴェンは、家族がアトランタへ移ったあと、そこで仕事を始め、2005年にグッチ・メインの「Icy」を、2009年にはアッシャーの「Papers」を手がけた。ミーゴス「Versace」でも、三人が言葉を細かく刻む下で、ドラムはまばらに跳ね、手拍子は2拍目と4拍目に置かれ、ハイハットはときどき固まって現れては消える。拍子の揺れは、ずっと使っているサンプラー MPC2000 から来ていると本人は言う。
Zaytoven learned his craft around the Bay, then started working in Atlanta after his family moved there, producing Gucci Mane’s “Icy” in 2005 and Usher’s “Papers” in 2009. On Migos’ “Versace”, while the three rappers chop their words into small pieces, his drums bounce sparsely, the claps land on two and four, and the hi-hats bunch up now and then before dropping away. He says the swing in his timing comes from the MPC2000 sampler he has always used.

2013年から、メキシコドロらのビートプラグズは、ザイトーヴェンのまばらで風通しのいい響きを残したまま、ピアノやオルガンの代わりに合成の音を前に出した。808 は、ザイトーヴェンのビートより硬く、大きく鳴る。2017年ごろからは、サマーズらが、そこに R&B の甘い歌を乗せてプラグンB を始めた。メキシコドロ自身も、2020年前後には、新しく出てきたキャッシュケイシュと組んでいる。
Starting in 2013, MexikoDro and the rest of BeatPluggz kept the sparse, airy feel of Zaytoven’s beats but pushed synthesized sounds to the front in place of piano and organ. Their 808s hit harder and louder than his. Around 2017, Summrs and others began pluggnB by adding sweet R&B singing on top. MexikoDro himself teamed up around 2020 with Cashcache!, a producer who had just come up.
