In 2017 Bladee, from Stockholm, made a mixtape with the Philadelphia production collective Working on Dying and named it after them. The Virginia rapper Black Kray is on it too.

In Stockholm in 2013, Bladee formed what became Drain Gang with Ecco2k, Thaiboy Digital and Whitearmor. His first tape, “Gluee”, went up free on SoundCloud the following year, with two of those friends on it. The video for “Everlasting Flames” was shot by the director of Yung Lean’s “Ginseng Strip 2002”. Four years later, “Be Nice 2 Me” from the mixtape “Icedancer” became one of Drain Gang’s best-known songs.

Black Kray grew up in Virginia and called himself “the Black version of those goth kids”. Goth Money, the crew he started with friends, is counted among the first emo rap crews. By 2014 he knew Bladee’s circle and F1lthy’s collective, and he rapped on a tape by F1lthy and the Loosie Man. Tread, the trap style he helped shape with F1lthy’s crew, usually runs at 160 to 190 beats per minute. Their collaborator Bootychaaain gave it the name.

With his 30th birthday approaching, Bladee recorded “Cold Visions” at his house in Stockholm in two weeks. F1lthy made most of the beats, and his one for “DONT WANNA HANG OUT” keeps building. Late in “OTHERSIDE”, Black Kray turns up under the name Sickboyrari. “RIVER FLOWS IN YOU” is rage played by the book.
