Two from Oakland
Two from Oakland
モンドレ・M.A.N.
Two boys met in seventh grade at Carter Middle School in Oakland: MondreM.A.N. and Squadda B. They kept rapping together while performing at local talent shows.
Alternative Hip-Hop
One of the records Main Attrakionz modeled themselves on was cLOUDDEAD’s 2001 album, which gathered six 10-inch singles by the trio of Doseone, Why? and Odd Nosdam onto one disc. Though they were a hip-hop group, the three also turn up in lists of ambient musicians. They co-owned the label Anticon as well, and in 2012 Main Attrakionz made the EP “Cloudlife” with another of its co-owners, Jel.
Cloud Rap
The blogger Walker Chambliss called Squadda B “the king of cloud rap” in 2010. He thought he was borrowing the phrase from an interview Lil B had given the year before. Main Attrakionz put out 12 mixtapes between 2009 and 2011 and made both a single and their last album with the East Bay duo Friendzone. Mondre says cloud rap is a name that was given to them.
