Mr. Collipark
Mr. Collipark
The name Mr. Collipark comes from the town of College Park, Georgia. Under his earlier name, DJ Smurf, he was brought onto So So Def’s bass compilation by Lil Jon, and in 1998 he called his own album “Dead Crunk”.
クランクCrunk
While crunk was yelling, Atlanta’s Ying Yang Twins whispered. On “Wait (The Whisper Song)” the two keep their voices low over nothing but a bass pulse and a few finger snaps, on an album Mr. Collipark produced most of. He also produced their first single, “Whistle While You Twurk”, built on “Whistle While You Work” from Snow White. Later he drew on “Wait” for the beat of Bubba Sparxxx’s “Ms. New Booty”, with the Ying Yang Twins on it too.
Trap
Shawty Redd made more of the beats than anyone on Jeezy’s 2005 album “Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101”, and he was one of the people Lil Jon called in, along with DJ Smurf, for the So So Def bass compilation. “Thug Motivation 101” and “Bottom of the Map” are his, with eerie melodies and chords out of a horror film. The beat for “Trap Star” came from DJ Smurf himself, by then Mr. Collipark.
Snap
Soulja Boy, a teenager in Batesville, Mississippi, made “Crank That” using only the sounds that came with a demo copy of FL Studio. A steelpan riff and finger snaps carry it, copying the snap sound then popular in Atlanta. Mr. Collipark balked at first when the song took off on its own, then signed Soulja Boy to his label. The next single, “Soulja Girl”, brings in I-15 from the same label, and “Yahhh!” followed.
