Who Polo G Learned From
Polo G, the Chicago rapper, names 2Pac and Lil Wayne as his biggest influences. Wayne, in turn, once drew on one of 2Pac’s songs for a song of his own.

Real people turn up in 2Pac’s songs. “Keep Ya Head Up” mentions Latasha Harlins, who was shot in Los Angeles in 1991. “Dear Mama” goes back to his mother Afeni’s addiction to crack and a poor childhood, and still comes down on the side of love and respect for her. On “Changes”, released after his death, he takes on race and police violence and recalls the death of Huey P. Newton, who founded the Black Panther Party.

ギターとドラムで組んだ「How to Love」は、2Pac の「Keep Ya Head Up」から着想を得たと本人が話している。
Drill rappers’ flat voices often come through Auto-Tune, and that wavering, half-sung delivery goes back to Soulja Boy and, before him, Lil Wayne. In 2008 Wayne soaked his voice in Auto-Tune on “Lollipop” and got his first No. 1, and on “A Milli”, from the same album, he keeps coming back to the title phrase as he raps. He has said 2Pac’s “Keep Ya Head Up” was the inspiration for “How to Love”, a slow song built on acoustic guitar and drums.
Drill
Polo G grew up on Chicago’s North Side. He often raps with a melody over beats built around piano. “Finer Things”, which he wrote while locked up, drew millions of views, and the video for “Pop Out” with Lil Tjay passed 200 million and led to a deal with Columbia. “Wishing for a Hero”, from his second album, borrows 2Pac’s “Changes”. The next year, on “Gang Gang”, he brought in Lil Wayne himself.
